PAGINA 76- MARIANA PAJON- WRITING
MARIANA PAJON
Mariana Pajón Londoño, born in Medellín
on October 4, 1991. Her parents had sports in their blood. Carlos, his father,
was a motorist and a bicicross rider, while Claudia, the mother, practiced
horse riding and volleyball.
Thus, with only three years, little
Mariana was ready to choose in which sport she was going to compete, and she
chose cycling. He simply got on a bicycle and never abandoned it. So many were
his desire to pedal that he started running even though there was no category
for his age.
An unexpected incident was going to
marginalize her from the races for a few months. A reckless cyclist entered the
track and led her ahead. Mariana fell and suffered a clavicle fracture. The
anger was great, but in two months, the athlete from Medellín ran again with
the renewed energy.
The sporting successes began to arrive
from very young. But perfectionist and demanding as it is, and as it was
despite the young age, Mariana told the parents. "I need to improve, I
have to learn English, because in the races my rivals talk to each other and I
don't understand what they say. And they take advantage of me."
In 2008 she was known in the world as the
Atomic Ant because of the power she showed in the races despite her height and
age. The London 2012 Games were highly anticipated by Mariana and her people.
The background placed her as one of the great candidates for gold, but that had
to be ratified on the track. And of course, he did. Not only did he win gold,
but four years later he climbed back to the first step of the podium in Rio
2016, becoming the first Colombian to win two gold medals in olympics
consecutively.
